Learn Blackjack Rules

Blackjack is one of the most popular casino games because it's very easy to play. Therefore, you should be able to quickly learn the basic rules of this game. Then, you can go out and play blackjack while actually knowing what's happening. Obviously, even if you don't know all the rules yet, the dealers will help you with everything, so that you can enjoy your gambling experience.

The basic goal of blackjack is to get closer to 21 points than the dealer, without actually going over 21 points. The value of each card is also very easy. Each card has the value that the number shows on the card (a 3 has 3 points, etc). Face cards are valued at 10 points. Aces are valued at either 11 points or 1 point, depending on what is more beneficial for the player.

As I mentioned above, if you are closer to 21 points than the dealer, without going above, you'll win the hand. If the dealer is closer, the dealer wins. If the dealer and you have the same hand value, nobody wins and the original bet is returned.

When you win your hand, you will get paid at 1 to 1, meaning for every dollar you bet on the hand, you'll get a total of $2 back, including your own original bet.

Should you get 21 points with 2 cards, you have a blackjack (this only happens if you have an Ace and a card valued at 10 points). In this case, you'll get paid at 3 to 2, which means that for every dollar you bet, you'll get $2.50 back, including your original bet.

Each hand starts by everybody getting dealt 2 cards. The players receive both cards face up, while the dealer only shows 1 of his 2 cards face up. After the original cards have been dealt to all players and the dealer, each player gets to decide if they want to draw another card. There is no limit on how many cards each player can draw, as long as they don't go over 21 points, in which case they automatically lose their bet.

After all the players have decided on their hands, the dealer gets to draw. The dealer never has to make a decision because the rules are very clear. When the dealer has 16 or lower, he / she has to take another card, while the dealer has to stand on 17 or higher. Should the dealer get more than 21 points, all the players who didn't get over 21 points win their hand, regardless of how many points they had. Therefore, it's sometimes smart to stand even if you don't have many points in your hand.

There are also some special rules you should know about. If the first 2 cards have the same value, you can split them to play 2 hands, each with 1 of the cards as starting hand. This makes sense when the dealer has a bad hand and you think you can win both. There is actually some basic strategy around this, so check out the strategy section for this.

Another rule that is important is to double down. If you decide to double down, you'll have to double your original bet and you'll get exactly one more card to complete your hand. This makes sense when the dealer is likely to bust and you have anything between 9 and 11 points after the first 2 cards. I again recommend that you read through the strategy section for more information.
